Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar by his folk-inspired pop hits most of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired numerous people to go to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, stated: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado like John Denver." In 2011, Denver was named the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. Today, he is the face of Colorado on the world stage. In my journeys, you come across someone on the opposite end of the planet, one from New Zealand and you say "I'm originally from Colorado and the very first thing that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief period of performing with small folk music groups was Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the tune for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential the moment he heard it for the first time. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days when he performed it in front of crowds of enthusiastic fans in Washington D.C.
